Established in 2017, Blend Interiors was built from a design passion to educate as well as create personalized environments that aim to tell your story. Led by Cara Alexander, we work with those that need assistance in both commercial and residential projects by offering design consultations, finish selection and scheduling, as well as architectural drafting services. We regularly work with builders, contractors, and architects in a collaborative effort to bring functionality and beauty to your own personal space.

Design Director, Cara Alexander, is a qualified and experienced interior design professional. Known for her caring demeanor, thorough communication, love of coffee and sarcastic sense of humour, she prides herself on making the design process fun, educational, and as stress-free as possible.

Growing up on the East Coast of America, Cara relocated to Perth byway of Hobart in 2012. Throughout her career in America and Australia, she’s space planned for large corporations, architecturally drafted plans for higher education and medical facilities, and provided full design and documentation services to residential, retail and hospitality clients. She loves the challenge of designing across different disciplines which is why in 2017, Cara started taking on her own projects under her own company, Blend Interior Design

In addition to helping others with interior design, Cara also enjoys being a full-time mom and wife, amateur photographer, wine drinker, charcuterie board grazer, Mario Kart champion, and compulsivly planning of her own home renovations.

F.A.Q.

I can do this myself, why would I hire an interior designer?

Of course you can do this yourself and most people do do it themselves and quite successfully, but how many times do we try to pull off a DIY job and it costs us more in time and frustration.  It’s the forefront of my career to know the best materials to use that are fit for purpose, lifestyle, and budget.  I’ve spent years specifying products and I have a good understanding what to present to my clients that will hopefully tick all the boxes.

There’s also a world of materials and furnishings that are only available to trade or wholesale clients so that’s another aspect of working with a designer that brings an element of uniqueness to your space.

What's the difference between an interior designer, decorator, or stylist?

It’s important to note that some designers market themselves as doing all 3, but individually each role requires a difference skill set. I specifically focus on design but have done decorating as seen in my Hodgson House project.

With an interior designer,  we primarily focus more on the architectural concepts of interiors. Quite often we’re also on the front lines with architects and builders in a collaborative effort to present the house or fit-out as a total package.  We review floor plans, design cabinetry, come up with schedules for finishes, fixtures, and fittings and stay involved from start to finish.

Interior Decorators are suited more for residential renovations. The focus on the decorating aspect often selecting furnishings and fabrics.

Interior Stylists are great for staging homes.  They provide the best kind of help when it comes to selecting artwork or decor accessories.

Won't it be expensive working with an interior designer?

While you can expect to pay a cost for my services, it doesn’t have to be expensive and fees are often absorbed in trade and supplier discounts that I pass on to you, the client.  If you’re realistic with your budget (and I will tell you if you’re not), I will make every effort to design to that figure.
